cementerio-catolico-gibraltar-03_9222237105_o Gibraltar - 27th November 2015 - With security around John Macintosh Hall tightened, the first ballot box surprised everyone arriving dead on 10pm, the time polling stations were supposed to close their doors. A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. airport-0429_24765631067_o 21-agosto-2014-colas-de-entrada-y-salida-de-gibraltar27_14803167427_o colas-de-salida-26-01-15_15756889984_o img_0357_45389521334_o la-galera-gustavo-bacarisas-de-gibraltar-acoge-las-obras-realizadas-durante-los-talleres-de-verano-del-servicio-de-trastornos-del-aprendizaje_23859604863_o inauguracin-exposicin-vctor-quintanilla-en-gibraltar_25248542833_o 3-de-septiembre-de-2016-gibraltar-music-festival-96_29331702672_o concierto-andrea-bocelli_48720880471_o gibraltar-eslovaquia16_10967411375_o 2g9a4911_48875163567_o img_9624_42123234601_o 2g9a0285_48801427107_o 7u3a5183_49336912082_o 2g9a0400_48800937018_o P1080798 sebastian-coe-en-gibraltar_39876308421_o wellington-front0440_38925123684_o 2g9a1997_49049018131_o img_5341_48919810412_o 2g9a4713_48717217248_o img_0212_45781930422_o img_1270_36861661641_o img_1499_29696600117_o img_8088_43690953715_o img_4555_23521822818_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-50-aniversario-referndum-10967-11_37148808055_o_36354891993_o img_0246_36479583055_o 9-de-noviembre-2016-fabin-picardo-en-la-feria-internacional-del-bunkering-ibia-12_30790814361_o 8-noviembre-2016-premios-certamen-internacional-de-arte-de-gibraltar-5_30879583475_o 2g9a7203_29207188013_o 99908_28874462483_o img_5276_29190507250_o 18-jun-2016-noche-de-la-calentita-en-gibraltar_27799730216_o 10-may-2016-visita-inaugural-crucero-jewel-of-the-seas-6_26330689693_o img_2110_27703096945_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
