A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. 20-agosto-2014-colas-de-salida-de-gibraltar18_14801018548_o presentacin-libro-yanitos-tllez33_12102483146_o img_0509_32242283978_o 19-junio-gibraltar-world-music-festival15_14277715229_o asher-moodie-reino-unido-junto-a-bailarines-de-la-mediterranen-dance-school-y-dance-academy_14033036985_o img_5233_34284269572_o gibraltar-music-festival-2013-publico-y-ambiente_9703083320_o 7u3a6456_49454013878_o la-galera-gustavo-bacarisas-de-gibraltar-acoge-las-obras-realizadas-durante-los-talleres-de-verano-del-servicio-de-trastornos-del-aprendizaje_23858217334_o 2013-Gibraltar-54th-Member-of-UEFA 17-febrero-2016-exposicin-gibraltar-y-la-guerra-civil-espaola-42_24970469192_o 7u3a5714_49425346503_o Ceremony of the Change of of Commander British Forces in Gibraltar. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
