Police were today requested to make their presence known at the polling station by Line Wall Road after GSD activists handing leaflets outside the polling station are alleged to have made complaints over the use of the language used by a GSLP/Liberal activist handing leaflets to voters of Moroccan origins.According to reports received by Core Photography the GSD activists complained that the use of the native Moroccan language should not be allowed by those guiding voters outside the polling station, claiming the "official language in Gibraltar is English," according to witnesses present during the incident. This resulted in tensions between the activists. Police were present to calm down the situation which has been played down as a minor incident. Executive members of the GSD approached over the incident have indicated that they were not at the time aware of such an incident, but have indicated that they would not support such actions and would be looking into the matter. No further known incidents have been reported throughout the day.Voting has been steady throughout the day, with politicians attending the polling stations throughout the morning as voters queue up to vote. The Commissioner of Police has attended polling stations to oversee security in person. 2g9a9416_48907569188_o airport-0426_38925599244_o 20-agosto-2014-colas-de-salida-de-gibraltar09_14987612455_o elecciones-generales-gibraltar-26-de-noviembre-de-2015_23216916032_o 01-mar-2016-entrega-de-premios-concurso-artistas-jvenes-de-gibraltar_25466799046_o Gibraltar Music Festival 2015 Sunday sessions 3-de-septiembre-de-2016-gibraltar-music-festival-37_29151486800_o 7u3a6487_49454013093_o img_6592_34732164413_o img_0667_21597211065_o lema-stay-at-home-stay-safe_49846306238_o img_4710_44297337100_o 2g9a0199_48801280876_o sk-slovan-bratislava-europa-fc-gibraltar-09072015-36_18948045914_o visita-platini-gibraltar-rock-cup-2014-08_14130564566_o 7u3a9652_49900812971_o Monos-36 gorhams-cave-3_39633657121_o Monos-en-la-ciudad-10 2g9a4234_48230644286_o img_9113_26588989799_o_24494933608_o img_1806_36166462634_o 08-may-2017-7visita-inaugural-del-crucero-celebrity-or-reflection-a-gibraltar_34737775245_o rita-ora-at-mtv-presents-gibraltar-calling-2018-day-2-by-ollie-millington-120_44833866222_o CM & Franco Visit Frontier Exhibition 060619 { seq} ( Photo John Bugeja) at the JMHall 2g9a5737_32763866525_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_36354051213_o 2g9a5137_30925624506_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_37168272005_o 13-noviembre-2016-da-del-recuerdo-en-gibraltar-25_30927279726_o 24-sep-2016-toma-de-posesin-de-carmelo-zammit-del-cargo-de-obispo-de-gibraltar_29959239485_o 2g9a7383_29833270235_o 05-ene-2016-cabalgata-de-los-reyes-magos-en-gibraltar_24124238751_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
