A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. memorial-en-honor-a-los-cados-estadounidenses-en-gibraltar-durante-la-i-guerra-mundial_22714086786_o monos-zona-alta-del-pen-con-turistas-08_9225077022_o turismo-en-gibraltar-092015-310_22719197946_o img_4810_26995115817_o 19-mayo-gibraltar-world-music-festival01_14463022722_o img_5219_34284273242_o img_5326_34443972735_o university-10_39603334062_o 7u3a9506_49597578056_o lincoln-uefa-21072015-36_19287573733_o 2017-Accession-65th-Anniversary-Sapphire-Jubilee-set 16-julio-2014-partido-prensa-cdiz-veteranos-de-gibraltar-02_14755672285_o 2g9a0291_48801281146_o img_5347_48919602421_o img_4547_48713813908_o 2g9a8336_32759671678_o img_0146_45831059751_o img_0312_31960315868_o CM & Franco Visit Frontier Exhibition 060619 { seq} ( Photo John Bugeja) at the JMHall img_2368_25970934887_o img_0170_28318285958_o img_2074_36880211511_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_36354074993_o 160910-national-day-gibraltar-2016-6_29314690470_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_36354078433_o 2g9a6147_31077392276_o_31078853966_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_36978715416_o 13-noviembre-2016-da-del-recuerdo-en-gibraltar-77_30927239686_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_37026137421_o 24-sep-2016-toma-de-posesin-de-carmelo-zammit-del-cargo-de-obispo-de-gibraltar_29845560942_o 7-feb-2017-encuentro-entre-fabin-picardo-y-el-alcalde-de-la-lnea-juan-franco_31920712624_o 129680_28874476973_o 24-sep-2016-toma-de-posesin-de-carmelo-zammit-del-cargo-de-obispo-de-gibraltar_29876085361_o 2g9a9279_29448090826_o img_5023_29446853616_o 10-feb-2016-celebracin-en-gibraltar-del-ao-nuevo-chino-3_24645632140_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
