Police were today requested to make their presence known at the polling station by Line Wall Road after GSD activists handing leaflets outside the polling station are alleged to have made complaints over the use of the language used by a GSLP/Liberal activist handing leaflets to voters of Moroccan origins.According to reports received by Core Photography the GSD activists complained that the use of the native Moroccan language should not be allowed by those guiding voters outside the polling station, claiming the "official language in Gibraltar is English," according to witnesses present during the incident. This resulted in tensions between the activists. Police were present to calm down the situation which has been played down as a minor incident. Executive members of the GSD approached over the incident have indicated that they were not at the time aware of such an incident, but have indicated that they would not support such actions and would be looking into the matter. No further known incidents have been reported throughout the day.Voting has been steady throughout the day, with politicians attending the polling stations throughout the morning as voters queue up to vote. The Commissioner of Police has attended polling stations to oversee security in person. 21-agosto-2014-colas-de-entrada-y-salida-de-gibraltar12_14989739215_o 25-noviember-2014-cola-de-salida-gibraltar-08_15694990748_o colas-frontera-de-gibraltar-11-noviembre-20146_15764089755_o img_3332_33432743093_o img_9339_43202804384_o 6-de-septiembre-2014-iii-gibraltar-music-festival53_15167947472_o james-foot-en-la-galera-de-bellas-artes-de-gibraltar_17494996908_o 2014-Christmas-2014 img_0541_22891162916_o 27-ene-17-fabin-picardo-visita-el-open-de-gibraltar-de-ajedrez-26_32175359530_o sk-slovan-bratislava-europa-fc-gibraltar-09072015-5_19384044139_o strongmen-201333_10019153374_o 7u3a5725_49425345883_o 7u3a5310_49336915252_o jews-gate-cemetery-0491_24765618787_o P1080740 2g9a8361_46581736712_o 2g9a4646_48714143021_o img_4011_45781935102_o cambio-de-guardia-en-gibraltar-por-boda-real_42163382962_o img_9171_37650531664_o_37651613904_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_37026137011_o 8-noviembre-2016-premios-certamen-internacional-de-arte-de-gibraltar-39_30843307086_o 129680_28874476973_o img_4991_29446939986_o 10-feb-2016-celebracin-en-gibraltar-del-ao-nuevo-chino-37_24573482679_o img_7886_23578624414_o 3-de-diciembre-2015-bienvenida-al-atlethic-de-bilbao-18_23414781861_o investidura-adolfo-canepa-como-nuevo-alcalde13_13581563104_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
