A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. ii-festival-internacional-de-jazz-gibraltar14_10382451934_o 19-junio-gibraltar-world-music-festival08_14464515845_o gibraltar-music-festival-2013-la-oreja-de-van-gogh_9703160194_o regiment-freedom-of-city-0086-bw_15436769111_o 27-ene-17-alumnos-de-la-escuela-obispo-fitzgerald-de-gibraltar-conmemoran-el-holocausto_32554442695_o img_4623_31174602427_o img_0786_21605784301_o 2g9a4925_48875162927_o cervantes-10 img_9585_42077110212_o 2g9a9720_50032155918_o 7u3a5723_49426042227_o 7u3a5234_49336695886_o 7u3a5797_49425348313_o img_0207_38924440024_o img_7617_39603757972_o Alameda-17 P1080594 img_5320_48919602836_o 5-enero-2017-cabalgata-de-reyes-magos-gibraltar-20_31980776402_o img_2309_43916529934_o 2g9a9158_30033586922_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_36354054203_o 2g9a5268_25325629009_o 2g9a9745_29401390581_o 2g9a9771_29401383931_o 27-abr-16-homenaje-a-los-trabajadores-de-gibraltar_26074976353_o 4-abr-2016-inauguracin-nueva-sede-banco-internacional-de-gibraltar-17_25961766330_o 10-feb-2016-celebracin-en-gibraltar-del-ao-nuevo-chino-34_24847793791_o 05-ene-2016-cabalgata-de-los-reyes-magos-en-gibraltar_23580015903_o a-dsc_5812_19430245192_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
