20150911_133313707_ios_22754398491_o Gibraltar - 27th November 2015 - With security around John Macintosh Hall tightened, the first ballot box surprised everyone arriving dead on 10pm, the time polling stations were supposed to close their doors. A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. westside_48248334627_o img_4881_41863375431_o la-galera-gustavo-bacarisas-de-gibraltar-acoge-las-obras-realizadas-durante-los-talleres-de-verano-del-servicio-de-trastornos-del-aprendizaje_23858217334_o 2015-Europa-2015-Old-Toys 17-febrero-2016-exposicin-gibraltar-y-la-guerra-civil-espaola-42_24970469192_o img_0639_21585720012_o inauguracin-exposicin-vctor-quintanilla-en-gibraltar_25576709710_o img_9829_21476805481_o 29-mayo-inauguracin-xvii-juegos-del-estrecho05_14311156184_o gibraltar-tradewise-chess-festival_007_12193590813_o 7u3a5745_49425344708_o 7u3a5805_49425817106_o 7u3a5862_49425349978_o american-war-memorial-7758_25762317278_o 2g9a4556_48713813018_o 2g9a4513_48714140426_o img_5254_48919809367_o img_4607_48713814578_o img_1279_36830742482_o img_4719_48713815473_o 7U3A2465 national-day-panorama5_48714141071_o img_3210_40937380191_o CM & Franco Visit Frontier Exhibition 060619 { seq} ( Photo John Bugeja) at the JMHall img_0472_36082667740_o img_2395_40800648062_o 2g9a6019_31077509056_o_31078855696_o 08-may-2017-34visita-inaugural-del-crucero-celebrity-or-reflection-a-gibraltar_34606276781_o 2g9a5329_25325834499_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_36354081553_o 13-noviembre-2016-da-del-recuerdo-en-gibraltar-67_25326919029_o 7-feb-2017-encuentro-entre-fabin-picardo-y-el-alcalde-de-la-lnea-juan-franco_31949827823_o img_9126_26467718552_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
