Police were today requested to make their presence known at the polling station by Line Wall Road after GSD activists handing leaflets outside the polling station are alleged to have made complaints over the use of the language used by a GSLP/Liberal activist handing leaflets to voters of Moroccan origins.According to reports received by Core Photography the GSD activists complained that the use of the native Moroccan language should not be allowed by those guiding voters outside the polling station, claiming the "official language in Gibraltar is English," according to witnesses present during the incident. This resulted in tensions between the activists. Police were present to calm down the situation which has been played down as a minor incident. Executive members of the GSD approached over the incident have indicated that they were not at the time aware of such an incident, but have indicated that they would not support such actions and would be looking into the matter. No further known incidents have been reported throughout the day.Voting has been steady throughout the day, with politicians attending the polling stations throughout the morning as voters queue up to vote. The Commissioner of Police has attended polling stations to oversee security in person. 001_20071495559_o 2g9a9867_48908037077_o turismo-en-gibraltar-092015-87_22756727391_o 20150911_141347320_ios_22717478046_o default img_3740_34112961651_o 6-de-septiembre-2014-iii-gibraltar-music-festival03_14981564779_o 19-mayo-gibraltar-world-music-festival06_14461013101_o 6-de-septiembre-2014-iii-gibraltar-music-festival31_14981751600_o 6-septiembre-2015-gibraltar-music-festival-2015-iii18_21224459821_o Gibraltar Music Festival 2015 Sunday sessions hospital-de-campaa_49726814116_o img_7555_35347380990_o img_2619_45564824811_o img_9898_21441944136_o jebel-sahara-5-el-cte-de-las-ffaa-britnicas-en-gibraltar-apunta-un-arma_22494994564_o visita-platini-gibraltar-rock-cup-2014-21_14150891072_o 2g9a0257_48801426002_o tradewise-chess-festival-entrevistas-y-ambiente02_12249462324_o 2g9a0868_48806238322_o 7u3a5180_49336226143_o sebastian-coe-en-gibraltar_38976679025_o 2g9a8827_48826621296_o img_1254_38925365554_o 2g9a6750-copy_48204117742_o 2g9a4529_48714141246_o img_5109_48919070083_o 2g9a8411_46634161481_o img_0209_28318272368_o 16-a-19-nov-2017-festival-internacional-de-literatura-gibunco-de-gibraltar-109_38547065101_o img_0764_39737056895_o 23-feb-2018-encuentro-entre-fabin-picardo-e-izquierda-unida-3_38627529370_o 2g9a9445_31537101343_o img_9494_35393029383_o 160910-national-day-gibraltar-2016-6_29314690470_o 24-sep-2016-toma-de-posesin-de-carmelo-zammit-del-cargo-de-obispo-de-gibraltar_29845566572_o 2g9a7342_29750649021_o 91933_28871959904_o gibraltar-300-aos-de-utrecht-1372013-61_9291841434_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
