cueva-de-st-michael-gibraltar_22745675675_o Gibraltar - 27th November 2015 - With security around John Macintosh Hall tightened, the first ballot box surprised everyone arriving dead on 10pm, the time polling stations were supposed to close their doors. A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. paisajes-la-bahia-gibraltar-01_9222264035_o 2g9a9864_48907305153_o turismo-en-gibraltar-092015-602_22742992355_o turismo-en-gibraltar-092015-672_22755088011_o concierto-de-albert-hammond-7-noviembre-201408_15553472500_o 25-noviember-2014-cola-de-salida-gibraltar-01_15694998498_o img_0504_22917035675_o Gibraltar Music Festival 2015 Sunday sessions inauguracin-exposicin-vctor-quintanilla-en-gibraltar_25756485232_o img_9968_21468037385_o img_2588_30623743577_o sebastian-coe-en-gibraltar_26002396678_o img_2656_44650719865_o 2012-Old-Views-of-Gibraltar-II 2g9a0849_48806238492_o strongmen-201380_10018957063_o 2g9a0488_48800937438_o img_0097_29910413118_o img_0253_43064742354_o WP_20140508_027 evacuation-monument-0475_39634006581_o Mezquita-26 P1080641 nova-twins-at-mtv-presents-gibraltar-calling-2018-day-2-by-ollie-millington-15_44833877012_o img_3036_42792487910_o 7U3A2454 16-a-19-nov-2017-festival-internacional-de-literatura-gibunco-de-gibraltar-149_24674710288_o img_2411-2_30765502368_o 6-enero-2016-cabalgata-reyes-magos-gibraltar-ii-45_32022597851_o 10-sep-2017-national-day-de-gibraltar_37026133161_o img_3729_36765429050_o 13-noviembre-2016-da-del-recuerdo-en-gibraltar-52_30927257876_o 12-de-noviembre-de-2016-visita-del-ministro-licudi-al-mein-schiff-42_25327021269_o 24-sep-2016-toma-de-posesin-de-carmelo-zammit-del-cargo-de-obispo-de-gibraltar_29876090221_o 24-sep-2016-toma-de-posesin-de-carmelo-zammit-del-cargo-de-obispo-de-gibraltar_29876090721_o 02-mar-2016-inauguracin-omisara-de-polica-de-casemates_25197190150_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
