Gibraltar - 27th November 2015 - With security around John Macintosh Hall tightened, the first ballot box surprised everyone arriving dead on 10pm, the time polling stations were supposed to close their doors. A stream of ballot boxes then arrived as GBC announced the results of their exit poll putting the GSLP/Liberal Alliance ahead with 72%. As counting started by midnight candidates started to arrive at John Macintosh Hall where the count is taking place. One of the first candidates to arrive was John Cortes, followed by Edwin Reyes. Moments later Joseph Garcia, Gilbert Licudi, Albert Isola and Steven Linares arrived to a somewhat quite JHM as counting started. The verification count was overseen by agents of both parties, with the Governor Alison Macmilan also visiting JMH to oversee the protocols being followed, as is traditional during general elections in Gibraltar.John Macintosh Hall also saw tonight armed patrols present around the area, in keeping with the high security alert status presently experienced in Gibraltar. The security detail deployed included the presence of an inspector within the armed response detail, this being one of the few occassions in which a high ranking officer has been seen present as part of the unit when in public. 1_discurso-del-ministro-principal-en-la-cuarta-comisin-de-la-asamblea-general-de-la-organizacin-de-naciones-unidas_30084983446_o 14-agosto-2014-colas-de-accceso-a-gibraltar02_14918568125_o 25-noviember-2014-cola-de-salida-gibraltar-10_15881855402_o 25-noviember-2014-cola-de-salida-gibraltar-12_15696733287_o img_0046_43921147401_o img_8838_19953416178_o gibraltar-world-music-festival-dia-1-the-sweet-canary-ensemble-20_9225448120_o 7u3a9390_49597579546_o Gibraltar Music Festival 2015 Sunday sessions intercambio-cultural-entre-gibraltar-y-cdiz_42896444541_o 17-febrero-2016-exposicin-gibraltar-y-la-guerra-civil-espaola-15_24793065840_o img_5858_49086445046_o img_2651_44650721315_o 7u3a5258_49336693586_o 2015-Winston-Churchill-50th-Anniversary P1080628 img_0178_41972499210_o P1080695 gibraltar-regiment-1_25762548198_o the-main-guard-2_27855380119_o 2g9a6749_48204070016_o img_3934_45831067251_o img_4731_48714144876_o img_1713_36861707931_o scounting-for-girls-at-mtv-presents-gibraltar-calling-2018-day-2-by-ollie-millington-1_44833865022_o dscf7910_42790067480_o dscf7912_44550422882_o llegan-los-generadores-para-la-nueva-estacin-elctrica_31318398802_o 13-noviembre-2016-da-del-recuerdo-en-gibraltar-98_25326897279_o 12-de-noviembre-de-2016-visita-del-ministro-licudi-al-mein-schiff-53_30927330836_o 04-sep-2016-gibraltar-music-festival_28941931353_o 2-jun-2016-salvas-en-gibraltar-honor-al-aniversario-de-coronacin-de-la-reina_27417178195_o 09-feb-2016-simulacro-de-incidente-en-el-aeropuerto-de-gibraltar_24286856354_o Gibraltar - 7th September 2015 - Gibraltar celebrated its first official Evacuation Commemoration Day with a concert hosted by the government of Gibraltar for some 800 evacuee survivors from the Second World War. The concert was held at the Victoria Stadium using the same stages and facilities used the day earlier by the Gibraltar Music Festival.Evacuation Commemoration Day was officially introduced earlier this year after Gibraltar celebrated 75 years since the whole of the Gibraltar population was evacuated during the second World War. Many of the Gibraltarians were taken to London where some died during the London blitz. Whilst most stayed in London, others were taken to Northern Ireland, Madiera and Jamacia. It was only a confrontation between population leaders that Gibraltarians were allowed back on the Rock after British officials had initially refused to return the population back to its rightful home.
